Saucony Triumph Vs. Echelon – A head to head comparison

In the above sections, we have covered a brief overview and some major differences between Saucony Echelon and Saucony Triumph. In the following sections, you will have a more in-depth comparison of these two running shoes. Related: Brooks Vs Saucony Vs Hoka: Which Brand Is Right For You?

Outsole

saucony triumph vs echelon - outsole

The outsole of Saucony Echelon is made from a special kind of blown rubber called Tri-Flex. It has good flexibility, and adaptability and is very durable.

Also, the outsole has grooves spread throughout the sole. This improves the flexibility of the sole and provides you with an excellent heel-to-toe transition.

Like many other running shoes, Echelon also has the area under the first metatarsal fused to provide a bit of additional support during toe-off. This kind of support is very much required by runners with underpronation.

The outsole of Saucony Triumph has the same Tri-Flex rubber as Echelon. This is durable rubber and provides you with optimal flexibility.

In addition to that, it has XT-900 carbon rubber for added durability and traction. This is a very subtle but important difference between Saucony Echelon and Triumph.

If you observe the outsole of Saucony Triumph, you will notice that there is no horizontal groove present on the outsole like Echelon. Instead, it has two almost parallel and vertical grooves running almost end to end.

This kind of groove helps you with smooth heel-to-toe transition and stability while running.

The grip of both kinds of outsoles is great on both wet and dry surfaces. You can run confidently on roads no matter the amount of moisture present and you may not have to deal with unpleasant conditions like slipping and falling due to bad grip.

Midsole

sacucony echelon 8 vs saucong triumph 19 - midsole

The midsole of Saucony Echelon has PWRRUN in the midsole. This is a soft yet responsive midsole and will provide you with a snappy ride.

It is a durable midsole that will hold its form through your running sessions and will not pack out prematurely under your weight.

Also, it is excellent at shock absorbing and will provide you with an ample amount of protection.

The midsole of Saucony Triumph has PWRRUN+. This is a full-length responsive cushioning that will provide you with a springy ride.

This foam is an enhancement of PWRRUN and this foam is lighter than the PWRRUN but provides you with similar cushioning. It will provide you with a soft and responsive feel throughout your run.

The stack height of Saucony Triumph is more than that of Saucony Echelon. The forefoot stack of Saucony Echelon measures 28mm and that of Saucony Triumph is 30mm. The heel stack of Saucony Echelon measures 36mm and that of Saucony Triumph measures 38mm.

This gives you a visual idea that the thickness of Saucony Triumph’s cushioning is more, although, the overall heel-to-toe drop of both of these shoes is the same and stands at 8mm.

In many of the running shoes from Saucony that uses PWRRUN, it also uses a topsole of EVERUN. However, that is not present in the Saucony Echelon ad it just uses the PWRRUN cushioning.

Upper

saucony triumph vs saucony echelon - Upper

The upper of Saucony Echelon has FORMFIT construction which combines breathable mesh with 3D printed overlays. The kind of materials and strategy that Saucony Echelon uses helps to accommodate a wide range of foot shapes.

Also, it has a 3D Heel Counter that secures your heel in place thus providing you with additional security.

The foundation platform of Saucony Echelon is built on a straighter last shape and is capable of accommodating runners with a wider foot.

The upper of Saucony Triumph has Engineered mesh. It provides you with a lightweight mesh that is highly breathable. Also, as this is highly breathable, it keeps the in-shoe environment dry and cool while running.

Also, it has the FORMFIT contoured footbed that creates a cradle for your foot and provides you with added guidance and support.

Saucony Echelon has different toe-box widths available like standard, wide, and extra-wide for both the genders, however for Saucony Triumph you have only standard and wide for both the genders.

Weight

In terms of weight, Saucony Echelon is much heavier than Saucony Triumph.

The price of Saucony Echelon is lesser than Saucony Triumph. If you compare the latest versions of these two running shoes (at the time of writing this post) there is a price gap of around $20.
