Brooks Ghost Vs. Mizuno Wave Inspire – A head to head comparison

Above we have covered some broad differences between Brooks Ghost and Mizuno Wave Inspire.

In the following sections, we will go in-depth about the differences and similarities between these two running shoes.

So, let’s find out what we have in store for you…

Outsole

Brooks Ghost has blown rubber on the outsole. This provides you with a proper grip on both wet and dry surfaces.

Also, this material is durable and improves the overall life of these running shoes.

The flexibility of these running shoes comes from the deep grooves that are present on the outsoles.

These groove depths are increased by the rubber pieces of the outsole. The result is a running shoe with optimized flexibility.

For Mizuno Wave Inspire, a lot is going on in the outsole. To make the heel section more durable, it has X10 placed there. This is a carbon rubber that improves the traction of these running shoes.

For flexibility, cushioning, and responsiveness the forefoot has blown rubber. It will provide you with a good grip and will keep you stable during running.

The last and final component that is present in the outsole of Mizuno Wave Inspire is the flex controllers.

They are present in the high flex areas and acts as miniature waveplates that increase the flexibility and reduces the overall weight of these running shoes.

Midsole

The midsole of Brooks Ghost and Mizuno Wave Inspire is very different from each other.

Brooks Ghost is on the softer side of cushioning, whereas Mizuno Wave Inspire has a more responsive feel to it.

Brooks Ghost’s midsole is made of three components. DNA LOFT, Omega Flex Grooves, and the Segmented CrashPad.

DNA LOFT will provide you with excellent cushioning without losing much of the responsiveness. However, you should note here that, due to the kind of material DNA LOFT is inherently less responsive.

Although the material is soft, it doesn’t reduce the overall lifespan of these shoes as they are very durable.

Last but not least is the Segmented Crash Pad. It flexes with your foot providing you with excellent cushioning and a smooth heel-to-toe transition.

There is a lot going on in the midsole of Mizuno Wave Inspire.

For good shock absorption, you have U4ic. This is the primary material of Mizuno Wave Inspire and is excellent with impact absorption, improved durability, and will provide you with a very comfortable ride.

To improve the stability of this running shoe, you will find Double Fan Wave extended from the heels to the midfoot.

This will improve the supporting capabilities of these running shoes without increasing the overall stiffness of the sole.

Other than this, Mizuno Wave Inspire also has a Mizuno ENERZY foam heel wedge that is soft and resilient and will protect your feet from the impact of heel strike.

Upper

The upper of Brooks Ghost is made from Engineered mesh. This is a lightweight mesh that will provide structure and breathability.

It will provide you with custom-fit due to the stretchy nature of the mesh and you will get a fit tailored to your feet.

Also, it has an updated heel counter in this version and will provide you with a secure and more comfortable fit. You will also not have to deal with heel slip.

Mizuno Wave Inspire on the other hand employs Double Layer Air Mesh for structure and breathability. The bottom layer is stronger so that the durability of the mesh improves overall.

To improve the fit it has medial and lateral overlays. This improves the structure and provides you with a more secure fit.

There are some other differences like the number of widths available and the size availability of each shoe. We have covered those details above. You may reference it from there if needed.

Weight

Mizuno Wave Inspire is a bit heavier than Brooks Ghost for both genders.

The weight of Mizuno Wave Inspire is 9.2oz/260.8g for women and 10.9oz/309g for men.

Brooks Ghost, on the other hand, weighs around 8.8oz/249.5g for women and 10.1oz/286.3g for men.

Price

Brooks Ghost costs way less than Mizuno Wave Inspire. Recently I’m observing that the price of Brooks Ghost 13 has been reduced.

This is a telltale sign that the launch of a new version is in the pipeline. However, this price cut has created a significant price gap between Mizuno Wave Inspire and Brooks Ghost with the former being around $50 more.
