Asics Nimbus Vs. Brooks Ghost – A head to head comparison

In the above sections, we have covered a brief overview and some broader differences between Brooks Ghost and Asics Nimbus.

In the following sections, we have covered an in-depth comparison of the major features of these two shoes.

Outsole

Asics Nimbus has AHAR or Asics High Abrasion Rubber on the outsole. This is a durable rubber that will last for a long time, thus improving the overall lifespan of this running shoe.

At the heel region, they have a more durable carbon rubber providing you with added abrasion resistance for heel-strikers.

Also, unlike its predecessor, this version of Nimbus has a full-ground contact outsole with the trusstic system sitting on the medial side and at the same level as the outsole.

The outsole is slightly thinner than the previous version to keep the overall running feel almost the same. However, this is also achieved by shallower forefoot grooves created by the midsole and the outsole rubber.

Overall this is a durable outsole that will provide you with excellent grip and stability while running.

The outsole of Brooks Ghost is also a full-length outsole made from blown rubber.

It also has highly durable rubber at the lateral side of the heel to make the heel-strikers comfortable.

Other than that, the layout of the outsole is almost the same as the previous version of Ghost with some minor but significant changes.

The forefoot of Brooks Ghost has three groves in the previous version of Ghost. However, this version has two and a half grooves. The groove area under the first metatarsal is fused to provide a bit of additional support to the underpronating runners.

Also, the outsole is extended a bit more towards the heel areas through the midfoot and the evident section from the heel to the midfoot is shifted a bit back. This provides a little bit of additional support to the midfoot strikers.

Overall this sole will last you for a long time and you will be able to enjoy this new Ghost for a good amount of time.

Midsole

The midsole of Asics Nimbus is made from FlyteFoam. This is a soft foam that will provide you with a good amount of responsiveness and will provide you with excellent cushioning.

However, this version of Asics Nimbus has a tad softer cushioning. This means that it is a bit more flexible than the previous version. To maintain almost the same firmness and flexibility of the forefoot, the grooves of the forefoot are made shallower. This helps Asics Nimbus 23 to maintain almost the same running feel as its previous version.

Also, for better shock absorption, this midsole has forefoot and rearfoot gel cushioning. This is impact absorbent and will provide you with a lot of protection while running.

Apart from this, Asics Gel-Nimbus provides you with premium step-in feel as it uses Ortholite X-55 sockliner.

The midsole of Brooks Ghost is made from DNA LOFT. This is soft midsole material that will provide you with plush cushioning.

Also, it is very shock-absorbing and will keep your lower body protected. A minor yet significant change that has happened with this version of Brooks Ghost is that the medial side foam density and lateral side foam density are the same which was not the case in the previous version.

However, with this change, the support for underpronators is reduced which is compensated by the fused outsole segment as mentioned earlier.

This midsole is resilient and will provide you with excellent cushioning providing you with a comfortable ride.

This version of Brooks Ghost’s midsole has omega flex grooves. This provides you with optimal forefoot flexibility without compromising the cushioning.

Also, the segmented crash pad flexes with the foot providing you a customized cushioning and stability for a smooth heel-to-toe transition.

Upper

The upper of Asics Gel Nimbus is made from Engineered Mesh. It is breathable and lightweight and provides you with a customized fit.

This mesh flexes with your feet providing you with a natural and non-restrictive running experience. Also, the midpart of the upper is a bit narrow providing you with an excellent and secure fit.

The upper of Brooks Ghost is made from 3D Fit Print mesh. This is lightweight and breathable. If you compare it with the previous version, it is slightly lighter and more breathable is what I feel.

This will also provide you with a customized fit and will provide you a comfortable running experience.

There is one big change with the upper is the laces. Brooks Ghost in this version has introduced flat laces which is surprising as their previous round laces were one of the best in its class.

Weight

In terms of weight, Brooks Ghost is lighter than Asics Nimbus.

Brooks Ghost weighs around 9.2oz /255.1g for women and 9.9oz/280g for men.

Asics Nimbus weighs around 9.9oz/280.6g for women and 10.9oz/309g for men.

Price

The price of Brooks Ghost is lesser than Asics Nimbus. If you compare these two running shoes, the Asics Nimbus will cost you around $20 more. (At the time of writing this post).

If you want to get a cheaper yet good running shoe, go for the previous version, Since the launch, the previous versions of these shoes are selling at a significantly cheaper rate.

In the above sections, you will find almost all the similarities and differences between Brooks Ghost and Asics Nimbus.
