Asics GT 2000 Vs. Brooks Ghost – A head to head comparison

In the above sections, we have covered a brief overview and some major differences between Brooks Ghost and Asics GT 2000.

In the following sections, you will find a more in-depth analysis of these two running shoes. Here is what we found out.

Outsole

Like other models of Asics, Asics GT 2000 also has AHAR or Asics High Abrasion Rubber. This is a durable rubber that will provide you with exceptional grip and stability.

This is a blown rubber compound and will provide you with excellent responsiveness.

Other than the AHAR, the heel of Asics GT 2000 also has AHAR+. This is a carbon rubber that will provide you with exceptional durability. This is especially good for the heel strikers as this kind of rubber will minimize wear and tear.

The forefoot of this running shoe is segmented and the outsole also follows this pattern. This ensures proper flexibility of the forefoot and allows a more natural movement.

The outsole of Brooks Ghost is also a full-length outsole made from blown rubber. However, on the outer side of the heel, you have highly durable rubber. This will help the heel strikers more as the heel will not wear off easily.

The outsole has some other minor upgrades the help this version of Brooks Ghost to maintain almost the same running feel as its previous version.

This outsole is a bit thinner than the previous version. However, the fusing of the gap under the first metatarsal helps to maintain similar flexibility.

Also, this rubber extends through the arch area towards the heel. This provides additional support to the midfoot strikers.

Midsole

The midsole of Asics GT 2000 is made from FlyteFoam. This uses organic fibers that are embedded in the foam and is lightweight and provides you with a responsive resilient foam.

It comes with forefoot and rearfoot gel cushioning which are silicone-based and provides you with excellent shock absorption.

To control your overpronation, Asics GT 2000 uses the Dynamic DuoMax. This controls the movement of the foot and leads to a smoother heel-to-toe transition.

Also, it has the Guidance Trusstic System provides you with lightweight support and additional torsional rigidity.

It has a gender-specific cushioning that uses an injected top layer of Solyte material for added cushioning.

The midsole of Brooks Ghost is made from one of the softest midsole materials from Brooks, the DNA LOFT. It provides you with plush yet responsive cushioning and is great for long-distance running.

In this version of Brooks Ghost, the lateral and medial density of these shoes are the same, unlike the previous version. This provides you with a similar feel and support throughout the gait cycle.

This kind of cushioning reduced the additional support that was there in the previous version for the underpronators.

For that, they fused the outsole’s second groove to provide a similar feel with a totally different implementation.

This is a resilient midsole and will provide you with excellent cushioning and will provide you with a cushy and comfortable ride.

This version of Brooks Ghost’s midsole also has omega flex grooves. This will provide you with optimal flexibility without compromising the overall cushioning.

Also, the segmented crash pad flexes with the foot providing you a customized cushioning and stability for a smooth heel-to-toe transition.

Upper

The upper of Asics GT 2000 has twin layer mesh. This is a lightweight mesh that provides you with excellent breathability. This mesh also moves with your feet and provides you with a more natural movement while still retaining structure.

It has seamless construction which will provide you with an irritation-free experience. Also, it has a heel clutching system that wraps the heel and provides you with a secured fit.

Also, the discreet eyelets are independently placed and provide you with dispersed lace tension and enhanced comfort.

The molded EVA sockliner is made from anti-bacterial material and reduces the odor and moisture and provides additional cushioning.

The upper of Brooks Ghost is made from 3D Fit Print mesh. This is a lightweight mesh that provides you with excellent structure and breathability. Also, this mesh feels a tad more breathable and lightweight than the previous version.

With this version of Brooks Ghost, the flat laces are introduced. This provides you with almost a similar secure lockdown of the foot and doesn’t come undone while running.

Weight

In terms of weight, Brooks Ghost is a bit heavier than Asics GT 2000.

Brooks Ghost weighs around 9oz /255.1g for women and 9.9oz/280g for men.

Asics GT 2000 weighs around 7.9oz/221g for women and 9.9oz/280.6g for men.

Price

Brooks Ghost is a tad more expensive than Asics GT 2000. However, the pricing difference of these two shoes for their latest versions i.e Brooks Ghost 14 and Asics GT 2000 9 (at the time of writing this post) was around $10.

The difference is not huge, but nonetheless may be a deciding factor when other parameters are the same.

However, rather than the price, a better deciding factor about the selection of these shoes will be your pronation. If you are a neutral runner Brooks Ghost will be your natural choice, whereas if you are an overpronating runner, you will gravitate towards Asics GT 2000.

Considering other things remain the same, then also, the $10 difference may not be a huge factor if you really like the shoe.

In the above sections, you will find a concise list of similarities and differences between Brooks Ghost and Asics GT 2000.

However, there are a few alternatives that may be worthy of your attention. They are similar in a lot of ways like the above shoes and will provide you with a similar level of comfort.
