Outsole

It has deep groves and are not separated into pieces. On the other hand, Brooks Beast has separate rubber pieces and the company may have tried to do this for a better heel to toe transition. Also, in Brooks Beast, in the central part of the outer surface, there is no additional rubber layer. In other words, the blown rubber is present only in the high impact zones on the outer sole of Brooks Beast. If Brooks uses segmentation for better heel to toe transition, New Balance uses different rubber in that zone for transition. It is very apparent as they have marked that region with a different color. Overall, both of these shoes though handles the flexibility and grip in different ways, they actually will provide you with excellent ride quality. Midsole

The midsole of these two running shoes is very different. They use different technologies to handle motion control. Brooks Beast uses GuideRails which is a separate piece of material inserted between the midsole and the upper. They bring back your knees to the line of motion, thus minimizing the impact of pronation on your lower body. On the other hand, New Balance 1540 uses a roller bar to essentially achieve almost the same effect. It is interesting to note that, Brooks Beast, before version 20 used to use something called progressive diagonal roller bar or PDRB for motion control. They changed it to GuideRails to make this more technologically at par with other pronation shoes like Adrenaline. Also, there is a huge difference in the materials used in the midsole. Brooks Beast uses BioMoGo DNA and New Balance 1540 uses ENCAP. Does that change the cushioning experience? Well, a bit. Some runners find BioMoGo DNA to be more comfortable whereas some find ENCAP to be more cushiony. It all boils down to personal choice. There are a couple of more differences like the heel to toe drop. Brooks Beast has a heel drop of 12 mm which is almost a standard for this range, whereas New Balance 1540 has a heel drop of 10 mm. However, these two running shoes are rugged and will last you for 300 to 500 miles or up to 3 to 6 months.

Upper

The upper of these two running shoes are completely different. Brooks Beast is a complete mesh with some occasional overlays, New balance 1540 is a combination of mesh and leather and provides you with a completely different feel.

Loo-wise brooks Beast is more modern whereas New Balance has the look of 80’s sneakers which is the hallmark of New Balance.

However, both of these running shoes are very spacious and will not crush your feet. They are available in different toe-box widths. Brooks Beast has Normal, Wide D, Wide 2E for women whereas it has Normal, Wide 2E, Extra Wide 4E for men.

The number of toe-box widths that are present in New Balance 1540 is more than Brooks Beast. It has Narrow, Standard, X-wide, Wide, XX-Wide for women and the same set of widths for men as well.

In that way, New Balance 1540 caters to a wider range of runners as it has more sizes also.

Both of the shoes have excellent padding in the collar and the tongue and will keep your ankle very stable.
